100% Grass-Fed Beef

                       The Healthy Difference

Beef producers can raise cattle that are either 100% grass-fed or cattle that are fed grain.  Cattle that are raised on grass for most of their lives, yet finish even only the last weeks of their life eating grain have the nutritional characteristics of grain-finished beef.

Over the past several decades, many studies have looked at the nutritional differences between 100% grass-fed beef and
grain-finished beef and found the following important results:

  • 100% grass-fed beef contains lower fat and lower calories than grain-finished beef
  • 100% grass-fed beef consists of 4 times more Omega-3 fatty acids than grain-finished beef
  • 100% grass-fed beef has an Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio of 2 compared to a ratio of 8 for grain-finished beef.                              Current health guidelines suggest a maximum ratio of 4.
  • 100% grass-fed beef has 2 times more CLA (conjugated linoleic acid, a potent defense against cancer) than grain-finished beef
  • 100% grass-fed beef has 3 times more vitamin E than                      grain-finished beef
